Tickets
Although the course is six days long, the practical application of the knowledge you learn is achieved by "working your tickets." Tickets are goals that you set for yourself, as ways to apply leadership skills you learned in Wood Badge to challenges you face in Scouting. You write your tickets to focus on your primary position in Scouting. If, during the course of the ticket process (anywhere from 6 to 18 months after completing the Wood Badge course) your Scouting position changes, you can work with your ticket counselor to rewrite the tickets that you have not yet completed.
You write your own tickets, based on your needs and the needs of your unit. These tickets are typically written between the two weekends of the course. You work with your troop guide during the second weekend to refine your tickets, and the Troop Guide approves your tickets.
Ticket items must be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Based. You don't have to worry about all this now, because there is a session on the first day of the Wood Badge course on using the concept of writing tickets, to set and achieve your goals. Goal setting and working to achieve these goals is a big part of any leadership process, and you can apply this technique in every phase of your life.
Because we are all different, we will all have different ticket items. Having seen some great outcomes from ticket items, we're putting some of the final outcomes here for you to use as resources.
